Now that our GT-R is making almost 650 whp, with more coming everyday, the drivetrain parts are certainly being over-stressed in their stock form. SSP have decided to upgrade the axle shafts on the car in an effort to strengthen the system before any catastophic failures happen. This is only one of many parts that SSP plans on releasing for the R35 drivetrain. With this addition we are one step closer to having the world’s most powerful GT-R that won’t grenade it’s internals as soon as we put the power to the ground.
The new axles have an advanced design that increases the CV bearing cage strength and a couple other improvements. SSP have been building high power AWD cars for some time now and it is nice to see their experience prove useful in the modified GT-R world. The axles are made in house at SSP and they plan to keep them in stock and ready to ship at a moments notice. Although they aren’t cheap, $2,399.00 isn’t too bad if you are trying to find the limit of what your GT-R can take. Happy hunting.
The entire press release can be found after the “read more.”
I now have a video to go with the dyno results! The car is really starting to make crazy power so thank goodness for the transmissions modifications that SSP will be releasing shortly. The next round of mods are the new SSP intake, larger intercoolers, and some form of fuel system upgrade.
I just wanted to share with all of you that on one the first baseline runs with the new GTR820 turbo kit the car made almost 590whp. Those numbers are some of the highest in the country. The car is still running the stock injectors, stock intake, and stock intercoolers. The only modifications have been the upgraded turbos and the SSP 3″ downpipes. They will be on the dyno for some time to come and I will post up some more information and dyno numbers as soon as I get them.
The video below is just after the car was running after the turbo swap.
There is also a new press release out of SSP that relates to their upcoming transmission upgrades. They will be having some sort of online release on Monday the 26th at 5pm at sspperformance.com
SOUTH SIDE PERFORMANCE WILL RELAEASE THE FIRST STAGES OF OUR COMPREHENSIVE TRANSMISSION AND DRIVETRAIN UPGRADES MONDAY, JANUARY 26 @ 5PM PST.
Sioux Falls, South Dakota (January 22, 2009) – Over the last two weeks, the automotive community has watched South Side Performance emerge with some of the most cutting edge performance upgrades available for the Nissan R35 GTR. With these parts came questions of just what might be next, and just how SSP would deal with the fears of drivetrain related failures. On Monday, the public will see just how committed SSP is to providing our customers with a car that can withstand all the fire breathing power provided by our big power modifications like our GTR820RR Turbo Upgrade.
The first of a full line of transmission and drivetrain upgrade solutions will be revealed on the SSP website main page on January 26 at 5 PM PST. Following our first release, we will be releasing another component of our transmission and drivetrain solution packages every few days over the next few weeks. When all is released, there will be three complete stages of upgrades for these systems and all the strengthening necessary to hold the big power provided by our upcoming GTR820HP kit.
Hot off the wire!! SSP is set up for the immediate release of their new 3″ down pipes. They have been installed on the ZCG GT-R and are soon to be tested with the rest of the soon-to-be-released SSP GTR820RR kit. These downpipes remove the annoying and power-robbing pre-cats that are built into the stock R35 downpipes. Boost will now come on stronger and faster, and lucky for us the parts are made in house at SSP so there is no waiting for the slow boat from Japan!! Instant gratification is finally here for US customers.
The official press release is below:
SOUTH SIDE PERFORMANCE INTRODUCES 3 IN CAT-LESS TURBO DOWNPIPES FOR NISSAN’S R35 GTR, THE SSP RS DOWNPIPES**For off-road use only!
Sioux Falls, South Dakota (January 22, 2009) – South Side Performance is offering, another great new product for the R35 GTR, the SSP RS Turbo Downpipes. This component is another in a line of SSP products that will move power hungry GTR owners towards 820 HP, when paired with our recently released GTR820RR Turbo Kit.
In months of testing different outlets sizes and shapes, the 3 in turbo downpipe design was found to be the most efficient size downpipe that would make big power, and provide your GTR a great throaty sound. These pieces are made with all the precision and care of those from Japan without the Japanese premium price. And, as with nearly all SSP products, the turbo outlets are designed to fit perfectly and install with relative ease.
The SSP RS Turbo Downpipes are 3 inches in diameter and utilize ½ inch flanges for a great look and fit. These pipes will really let the beast out of its cage as they remove the power robbing pre-cats and provide your turbos with some room to breathe. The result of removing these highly restrictive catalytic converters is a deep growl, improved turbo spool, and an overall improvement in the responsiveness in the car throughout the power band.
Price and Availability:
This upgrade can be purchased starting today for $1,399.00. SSP is dedicated to having these parts available in stock (we build these pieces entirely in-house) and ready to ship as quickly as possible. This means no more waiting weeks or months to get the parts you need, because with SSP your power solution is always just a phone call away. For more information contact us at: 605.331.7889 or by email@example.com.
Here is a video and a dyno graph of the ZCG/SSP R35 on the SSP dyno out in South Dakota. The car is out there to get fitted for prototype SSP parts, some are secret and some parts are meant to be released fairly soon. So far they have fitted the SSP intake manifold and larger throttle bodies to get the graph below. We can’t wait to see the next set of results!
I don’t have all the background info on the runs but I will try to dig up some for you.
There are going to be lot’s of other cutting edge GT-R modifications while the car is at South Side Performance and we could not be happier that we have teamed up with them to make one of the most bitchin GT-Rs on the face of the planet. The best news is that you will be able to get all the latest updates on our GT-R right here as I get them.
