One Bad Wagon Is Now The Coolest Wagon!

Filed under: Featured Cars and Projects
by Alvin G @ 11:46 pm on May 21, 2011

We featured our friend Anthony’s Datsun 510 wagon on the blog last year. This Datsun has been thoroughly modified and re-engineered by Anthony over the years and now the car is included in a recently published paperback book!

Anthony’s 510 is featured in “America’s Coolest Station Wagons” by Scotty Gosson and you can grab a copy through Amazon.

Anthony is a man of few words but he tells us how the book feature happened:

“I was contacted by the author when he found my car on Pro-Touring.com. He was excited to include it in the book and initially plans were made for me to come down to Medford where he lives and go to an autocross and have him take some pix.
However the 2jz engine swap couldn’t be completed in time, so I obtained the requirements he needed for the photo’s. My friend Rick agreed to take the shots and we found a couple of locations in the downtown Portland to take the pix.
The author asked me a series of questions, and about the car in general and wrote the article off that. He didn’t have a choice of the pix they used so it was interesting to see which ones were picked.”

Congratulations Anthony and to all of those Datsun 510 wagon owners that didn’t already know…your wagon is cool!

Turbo6 Coming To ZCarGarage

Bryan Feldman has been building and modifying some amazing Datsun 510s since the early 80’s and if you are not familiar with his work check out his website . One of Bryan’s creations was this 1971 510 4-door with something a little unorthodox under the hood: a turbocharged straight 6-cylinder engine from a Z-car!  “Turbo6″ on the license plate gave folks a hint of what powered this sleeper 🙂  Inside is a very extensive roll cage with a custom dash and the car still rolls on the 15” Panasports.

Bryan built this car over 30 years ago! Amazingly the car looks just as it did and still runs. With help from a few friends in Georgia “Turbo6” was found and should be arriving at ZCG later this week, stay tuned for better pictures and video!

This G35 sports a built engine with a complete Vortech Supercharger kit and SI-trim upgrade.  A full supporting cast of components were installed by ZCarGarage including:

  • Stillen headers
  • Stillen exhaust
  • Berk Hi-flow cats
  • 600CC injectors

Rob and the ZCG crew extracted significant power gains using the UPREV software and PMAS MAF. A solid 20rwhp and 18rwtq were gained bringing total output to 456rwhp and 364tq!!!  Gotta love how the Vortech blower delivers a smooth ramp-up of power as rpm rise.

Jim’s G35 is a powerhouse but braking and traction were two items that needed attention.

We spent a lot of time making a decision about the look and size of the wheels. No offense to Jim but the chromed out Foose wheels were destined for a slammed Chevy Silverado! Take a look:

It is amazing how a wheel/tire combo can transform a car’s aesthetic. 19″ SSR Professor SP3 wheels look absolutely brilliant on the G and allowed us to install much needed larger tires. Icing on the cake was the Stoptech 14″ ST60 front brakes with ST22 13″ brakes in the rear:

The combo is incredible!

Rob’s RB-Powered Datsun 240z

Filed under: Featured Cars and Projects
by Alvin G @ 11:01 pm on May 5, 2011

One of my hobbies is 1/24 scale model car building. In the past few years I’ve focused on building scale replicas of friend’s personal cars. Rob’s 1970 240z holds a special place in my Z heart and I thought it would be a nice challenge to make a model faithful to the real car.

I made sure the engine bay had the entire RB25DET drivetrain visible with Greddy intake manifold, injectors, turbo and FMIC plumbing, BOVs, and that Interstate battery. On the outside I used Go Green paint for the body, Porsche Big Red calipers with cross-drilled rotors, Panasport-type wheels, and a photo-reduced license plate that reads ” GO GA Z”.  The interior even has DEFI gauges, a MOMO steering wheel and Recaro seats…just like the real thing!  Enjoy the pictures and stop by the shop to see the model in its display case, but please do not touch it 🙂

FX45 Gets a BBK

Filed under: Featured Cars and Projects,Performance
by Alvin G @ 1:19 pm on April 27, 2011

Yes Zcarblog readers, even those larger Nissans get ZCG love! Here is Rob with the story on this FX45:
Thad N and his wife Dana are big Nissan fans. Thad found a really clean FX with all the right stuff for making his commute a pleasureable experience. Living in the Santa Cruz mountains with all of those curvy roads this FX certainly gets put through its paces.
Thad has added GTspec bracing to stiffen up the chassis and intake to let that amazing V8 sing its song going in and out of the twistys.

His FX still had too much body roll in and out of the turns, and was also lacking in the brake department.
Solution 1: Eibach Pro-kit. A slight drop with some added spring rate allowing the FX to feel more solid during cornering.

Solution 2:  STOPTECH Big-Brake kt( BBK) kit with matching rotors and 309 pads in the rear. The stock rear calipers were also color matched to the fronts in red.

The new stance and big-brakes peeking out of the stock wheels turn this FX into a sleeper:

This FX is born again. Thad’s impression after the upgrades:  “the FX was amazing!!!”  After Dana drove she called to tell me that her G35 sedan needed to be upgraded ASAP.
So stay tuned this Nissan family has more upgrades on the way 🙂
