Jaques G was referred to Z Car Garage his co-workers at Apple. Last month he visited us for suspension/wheels and came back for Stillen intakes and an UPREV tune. Handling was improved with a few common upgrades like stiffer Eibach springs, Hotchkis sway bars and SPC control arms to keep alignment in check:

A nice braking upgrade is the OEM G37 S caliper setup. We installed these Akebono units on Stoptech rotors all around:

Front OEM vs big calipers:

Absolutely beautiful 19″  WedsSport SA55M wheels encase the calipers well.

These wheels are finished in matte grey have a more concave face for the rear…very handsome additions to the G.

Jacques wanted a little more power so we installed Stillen intakes followed by UPREV tuning.

The intake alone was good for +10hp but no significant gain in peak tq. Note, however nice gains in low and high rev ranges. UPREV tuning yielded an additional 4hp/6tq for total of 298hp/240tq to the wheels. Shown below are the gains from baseline to intake to UPREV:

Finally, the G was up for smog and it passed with flying colors. Jaques’ G37 is now a sharp looking corner-carver!

James Z (seriously, “Z”!) is a new customer and came to Z Car Garage while searching for a shop to install all of his bolt-ons purchased through the web. We installed an ARK exhaust and Stillen intakes on his 2013 Z34:

To make the most from intake/exhaust additions Rob UPREV tuned the Z with gains of +15hp/8tq resulting in 315hp/258tq to the wheels. Note the flatter torque curve in addition to increased hp all the way to redline:

We also installed a personal touch to the interior with these lighted “Z” kick panels:

More power and an enjoyable sound…thanks for coming to ZCG James!

Herb came to ZCG for a full Koni dampers install and new T/C rod bushings followed by an alignment. Does your G’s tired suspension need updating?

Tetsuya is a long time customer and visited ZCG years ago for an UPREV tune and Bassani exhaust system on his pretty 2005 350z. He recently came back for some suspension upgrades and we happily obliged. We installed TEIN StreetFlex coilovers combined with their latest EDFCactive dampening controller:

The StreetFlex dampeners are trick parts with pillowball mounts and 16-way adjustability. The
“active” EDFC offers two new features in addition to the totally redesigned interface. With the on-board accelerometer, dampening can be automatically adjusted based on g-loads and a GPS unit enables speed-sensitive adjustment!

The EDFC unit was mounted neatly in the Z’s NAV/cubby:

To handle braking duties we installed a Stoptech Big Brake Kit (332mm) finished in red up front and color matched the stock rear calipers on new Stoptech rotors. Everything is framed nicely behind the new Volk 57xtreme 19″ wheels:

Tetsuya’s Z is now a well-rounded sports car that will surely bring more smiles on spirited drives!

Beautiful Inside & Out: David’s 1973 Datsun 240z

Picture-81

You might remember this stunning S30 we featured a few years ago on our For Sale page that later made its way to our friends at Bring A Trailer. The metallic green color, tan interior and Appliance mesh wheels really give the car an irresistible 70’s vibe.

Several years ago we worked on the Z with previous owner Zack L prior to its sale. You can imagine how happy we were when new owner David J brought “THE 73 Z”  back to ZCG recently. It was running rough and David also wanted to tidy up the engine bay as well as a few other items. While sorting the driveability issues we found the crank pulley dampener was slipping making it hard to set timing. A new factory piece was installed:

The carbs were gone through and dialed in. A full tune-up was performed including NOS OEM spark plug cables and intake/exhaust manifold gaskets. This Z is so gorgeous on the outside that we wanted to make it just as nice once the hood is opened. The engine bay was treated to full powdercoating and zinc plating services, new clutch hydraulics and a refreshed radiator.

Here is a look before and after…an engine bay worthy of its shiny exterior!

We replaced the factory exhaust manifold with an MSA ceramic-coated header followed by our ZCG custom 2.5″ exhaust system with stainless resonator and slash tip:

Old twice-pipe setup:

bm42213 018 BM 51213 063 BM 51213 064

Our ZCG upgraded door seals were installed and door fitment sorted to eliminate that “tinny” sound S30 owners commonly experience:

The fuel recovery system needed attention so hoses were replaced and tidied up:

Wheels undoubtedly make or break a car’s aesthetics. The dealer-optioned Appliance wheels originally fitted definitely look just right and maintain that vintage feel. David chose a set of Rota RB wheels to add a little modern flair and more rubber to the road:

With a freshened engine bay and new shoes David showed the ’73 Z at the Brisbane car show:

We loved working on your Z so thank you David for coming back to ZCG!
