Laguna Seca Action, Anyone?

by Alvin G @ 1:43 am on December 21, 2011

Scott S recently did a track dat at Laguna Seca in the Green Z. Here is another amazing in-car video showing Scott chasing a talented 240z driver. Scott was running lap times of 1:42.32, 1:42.41, and 1:43.00s…he is quick! Turn up the volume to hear that VQ sing!

Scott also acquired a new, full race-spec 350z car to campaign soon:

Ladies and Gentlemen this means that the GREEN Z is now for sale!

Faster and Stronger: Bob’s G35

Filed under: Featured Cars and Projects,Performance
by Alvin G @ 3:22 pm on December 20, 2011

Here is Rob with another great forced-induction story:

Bob H. is a long time customer of ZCG. He blew his engine a year ago during a spirited track session at Thunderhill Raceway. Bob decided to come back to the track with added engine strength and something to help him get from corner to corner quicker.

He did his homework and purchased some forged internals and built an engine with lower compression. Bob did all of his assembly work for his engine and installed his own GTM DE twin-turbo kit in his garage at home. GO BOB!

Once the engine was broken in and the boost controller hooked up, he brought it to ZCG for the icing on the cake. We installed a PMAS maf and custom tuned Bob’s set up for 12.5 psi. This G is track ready to run with any modern day supercars…

Single Turbo Sleeper: Jason’s G35

Filed under: Featured Cars and Projects,Performance
by Alvin G @ 1:28 am on December 17, 2011

Jason D. is a long time customer and friend of ZCarGarage. During the last year he spent time researching and patiently selecting parts for his build. This G35 Coupe features some really cool parts including a  GTM Stage 1 short block with a set of Rebello prepped heads and GTM Stage 1 turbo cams.  Forced induction is provided by a Momentum Performance single turbo kit with their ceramic-coated headers.

Jason chose the Momentum kit for several reasons but one of the most attractive is that the kit can be installed/serviced without removing the entire engine from the car.  A host of supporting parts were installed including:
-600CC injectors with a GT Maf
-Upgraded fuel system
-JWT 50/50 clutch and JWT Alum flywheel
-Greddy Profec B boost controller
-Custom exhaust with Hi-flow cats

Below, you can see how the exhaust is routed from the ceramic-coated headers to feed the turbo on the driver’s side, a close-up of the crossover, and the downpipe. Plenty of piping and it all fits in such a tight space!

The finished install with wastegate, BOV, cooling lines, and stealth FMIC:

So how does the single turbo kit perform? When pressing down on the Go pedal you better have both hands on the wheel. At 12psi it laid down an impressive 505hp/506tq at the wheels!

One of my favorite things about Jason’s G is that besides looking handsome it’s completely unassuming in Desert Platinum. Can you tell that is has literally twice as much power under the hood?

The neutral color, mild drop with HKS coilovers, low key SSR wheels and brakes(Stoptech) all make it difficult to tell that this G might be hard to pass up in traffic 🙂  With a Quaife LSD and 3.36 gears from an automatic G the massive 315-width tires light off like they are 205s!

Rolf’s Z33

Filed under: Featured Cars and Projects,Performance
by Alvin G @ 8:11 pm on December 14, 2011

Rolf J is a ZONC member and used his winning raffle prize for a little ZCG dyno love. When we baselined the car we noticed the graph was very shaky and looked like a lack of timing:

Sure enough we found a knock sensor code stored. We removed the intake to gain access to the sensor and found a mouse had chewed on knock sensor harness wires. The knock sensor and harness were replaced and the Z was back!

And icing on the cake, Rolf’s Z got UPREV’d to the tune of +9hp/8tq at the wheels…

Rolf was happy to feel his Z stronger than ever:)

Trick Pony: Jeff’s Mustang GT

Filed under: Featured Cars and Projects,Performance
by Alvin G @ 5:44 pm on December 13, 2011

Jeff V. came to ZCarGarage for extensive chassis upgrades to his TrackPack-equipped Mustang. This isn’t the first time a muscle car has visited ZCG as you might recall the Vortech install on this ’11 GT back in March. We do it all 🙂

The stock manual transmission shifter can be improved so a Barton short throw shifter was installed along with their new bracket:

Further back the rear end got some new goodies installed including a new TORSEN limited-slip unit, 3.73 gears, and a diff cover from Ford Racing:

Next up for this Mustang will be headers, full cat back exhaust system and
full suspension!
