When you have a passion for vintage automobiles it’s difficult to own just one. For Rob at ZCG he felt it was time to let his prized Mazda RX-4 wagon go to another car-crazy enthusiast. You can read about the RX-4, what makes it so special and also see Japanese Nostalgic Hero magazine’s feature
HERE.
Recently fellow Z car fanatic and friend of the shop Lou S acquired the RX-4 and has big plans for it. Lou is no stranger to vintage cars having built the phenomenal 3.2L
FairladyZ with us and an
FD-RX-7
in the works.

ZCG and Lou immediately went to work on the wagon, doing what any Mazda-fan would right off the bat: ditch the ugly US-spec bumpers! The rear bumper was removed and center section painted satin black:

The front bumper was removed and the center grille area painted satin black as well:

Before and after:

We wouldn’t leave it bumperless so JDM slim bumpers have been sourced and they are being re-finished as we speak! Ride height was improved with springs and lowering blocks and it looks mean over the steel wheels.
The F/R brakes got freshened:

What else? Lou wants to re-finish the interior with restored seats and also remove the roof rails for a cleaner look.

Stay tuned for more updates as we Lou makes the RX-4 his own while keeping it old-school!

Fong hails from Stockton and tried a few shops in the Bay Area before finally coming to ZCG. His 1993 300zx Twin Turbo is the one of prettiest Sapphire Blue Z32s I’ve seen with a great stance, J-Spec front/rear and sharp Enkei RPF-1s.

Fong came to us for some general maintenance including:
-Suspension bushings and Powertrix control arms
-Fixing the HICAS
-new oil lines, PCV system
-alignment

With a relatively short list of items needing attention we freshened this Z so
Fong can continue Enjoying the Ride! What can ZCG do for your Z?

Steve S. has a serious addiction: he can never have enough horsepower! He came back to ZCG with his gorgeous Vortech supercharged
G35 to push the envelope and make even more power. Rob tuned the ivory G on 100 octane and produced some impressive results: 548hp/431tq to the wheels! This is on the stock block and we don’t recommend doing this but Steve’s appetite for power is insatiable…

When Linda N. saw the power gains and heard the sweet exhaust note on her son Anthony’s Altima SE-R…she had to have an exhaust system on her own ride! Linda’s Armada has 185k miles and she drives it hard. To help her enjoy the ride we installed a Magnaflow exhaust followed by Rob’s UPREV tuning.

With the exhaust in place we put the stately SUV on the ZCG dyno. With the exhaust and tuning this Armada now makes +15hp and +18tq at the wheels. Power delivery is increased throughout the entire rev range:

This is one driven Nissan family and we love sharing the gift of more power with them.

Anthony’s parents
Mark and Linda N are both serious Nissan/Datsun enthusiasts and what better present to give their son than a new exhaust system! Anthony’s daily driver is an Altima SE-R, here is the Magnaflow exhaust vs the stock system:

We put the mighty VQ-powered FWD sedan on the dyno and saw some nice gains. Keep in mind this is a CVT-equipped car:

The dyno revealed peak hp gain from 205 to 222rwhp while peak tq stayed relatively the same. Take a closer look though you will notice that more torque is available at both low and high rpm ranges:
A birthday present that gives more power and a throatier exhaust note…we know Anthony will enjoy the ride! Stay tuned as we have more to come from this Nissan-crazy family 🙂
