This roadster has been owned by current owner for almost 15 years. The previous owner restored the car in 2000, performing many custom additions.
Drivetrain
The original 1600cc/4-speed (R16) drivetrain was replaced with the larger 2000c/5-speed (U20) drivetrain. This specific engine came from a rare, 1967 Datsun 2000 and it is #00463. Twin side-draft Solex carbs are not original to the car, but still bolt up to the factory Solex intake manifold.

Braided hoses were replaced by custom fuel plumbing fabricated by Mark Nakashima of J-cars in 2013. Competition oil pan and ceramic-coated exhaust manifold shown below. Exhaust is a custom and functional dual side-pipe system.

Body
The body has no visible signs of rust or major dents. All rockers fore/aft of doors are solid. Trunk floor is surprisingly un-cracked in typical area caused by gas tank stress. No holes made for speakers in rear trunk panel. No evidence of accidents in front or rear.

Rocker panels:

There are several “custom” body modifications including a louvered hood, side-fender vents and side trim removal.

Paint is in show condition with a few knicks/driving wear.

There is burn damage on driver’s side front fender from a fuel leak on exhaust system. Paint in this area has not been corrected/restored.

All chrome is in great condition. All lights/turn signals are functional. Fog lights have been added inside of the factory valance. Front bumper replaced by a bar and rear bumper replaced by “split” re-shaped units. Tail light bezels and gaskets are perfect.

Weatherstripping is soft and pliable throughout with the exception of the windshield gasket which has some cracking
Chassis

Full front end refresh with Nissan Competition front coil springs, stock rear leafs and KYB GR-2 shocks at all corners. Nissan Competition front sway bar. In addition to sorting out the carbs Mark went through the braking system. A full Volvo 4-piston caliper conversion was installed up front, fitting neatly under the stock steel wheels with hubcaps running 185/70/14 Hankook tires.

Interior
The interior is complete with several custom touches. The seats are from a Mazda Miata and the door panels are diamond plate. A 4-pt roll bar is powdercoated silver. Stock gauges have trim painted to match body paint stripe. A Nardi wheel using a rare adapter replaces the factor steering wheel. All gauges/turn signal indicators and lighting are functional. A CD player head unit hides in the dash glove box with speakers behind the seats.

Performance
After Mark went through fuel system and tuned the carbs it runs well from idle to redline. Cold starts fine and makes all the right noises under throttle. Please see videos below. The 5-speed transmission shifts smoothly with no grinding. Clutch engagement is good.
Fresh braking systems from Mark and the tight suspension make this car really fun to drive. The steering is sharper than other roadsters I’ve driven.
Car is being sold as-is. It does not come with a softop or hardtop, but has all the hardware to accept them.
