Brisbane Annual Z Show Pictures…7/9/11

by Alvin G @ 12:49 am on July 12, 2011

The Z Owners of Northern California (ZONC) hosted the Annual Z Show in Brisbane, CA last Saturday and it was an excellent day! Plenty of Z cars from all eras parked on the grass near the marina with outstanding views of Candlestick Park and East Bay foothills. The venue is reminiscent of the JCCS in Long Beach, but without the Queen Mary! Many Datsun/Nissan owners saw friends old and new in this outstanding location, so big thanks ZONC for an excellent day!

Several cars built by ZCG also attended including Joe A’s 260z, Wade W’s Skyline powered 240z, and Tom N’s boosted 370z(soon to be featured):

Lots of classic Z cars and two turbocharged 510s represented for Datsuns. The oldest Datsun present was a 1967.5 SPL311 roadster:

Check out this LS1 V8-powered 240z with Rota RB-R wheels…Several GT-Rs attended including the AMS GT-R.

Even the parking lot had some cool cars like this killer-stance G37 Coupe.

Congratulations to 1st place winners Matt G (turbo 510), Wade W (RB26-powered 240z), Tom N (370z) and Mike with his ‘67.5 Roadster!

Plenty of great pictures courtesy of Bob J of ZONC and Rob!

If you are a fan of vintage racing come out to Laguna Seca August 18-21 for the Monterey Motorsports Reunion. Once again ZONC is hosting a VIP Car Corral for your Nissan/Datsun/Infiniti. To park in the corral you MUST purchase the corral tickets by JULY 10! That is this Sunday folks! It is only $10, allows you to park with other Datsun owners, and it’s literally footsteps away from the track and venue, unlike general parking. See you there!

GTM-Boosted G37 Coupe

ZCarGarage has plenty of upcoming project updates to share with you so keep checking the blog! Here is Rob with a report on a sleek, twin-turbocharged Infiniti G37 coupe:

Matt and Josiah are cousins in a family filled with Nissans and Infinitis.  Matt had owned lots of American muscle  cars and bought the G37 since it had a great combination of performance yet refined ride and style. The power wasn’t enough though…we have all been there! Matt and Josiah came to ZCG to meet with me and discuss options for increasing the G’s output. We came up with a plan consisting of a GTM Twin Turbo Kit (Stage 2) to make sure we had room to grow should the need arise.

The kit installation was smooth and GTM really makes a high quality package. Note the heat shields that hide the exhaust manifolds and the large front mount intercooler that fits beautifully behind the factory bumper:

With the kit installed, the engine bay appears almost stock with only the polished intake pipes deviating from the tame look . There isn’t much to indicate the magnitude of force-fed power that is now being produced 🙂 On the ZCG dyno the Stage 2 kit turned the rollers to the tune of 428rwhp/369tq!

To keep the newfound power “under the radar” we mounted the Defi link gauge setup in the sunglass holder and out of plain sight:

The G37 is now an entirely different machine with the added power and torque and we know that Matt is enjoying his new Japanese super coupe!

Palo Alto Concours Report 6/26/11

by Alvin G @ 11:27 pm on June 27, 2011

This year’s Concours was just as incredible as last with an even larger showing of Japanese cars. Thanks to David Swig there was an 11-car lineup in the Japanese Car Exhibit.  The display included an R34 Skyline GT-R, Datsun 510, Datsun 610, three Datsun 240z cars, Datsun roadster, Toyota Corolla, Toyota Celica, Toyota Corona, and a Honda S600 roadster!

The weather was perfect for walking on that famous Stanford lawn with cars from different eras and marques everywhere. The highlight of the Japanese Car Exhibit for me had to be the Datsun 610, Toyota Corona and the Honda S600.  I have not seen a clean 610 in person and this one looked just right lowered over Watanabe wheels and running a front spolier. We wonder what it had under the hood.  I really liked the pillar-less door/window and the rear tail lights:

David Swig showed his 26k original mile Toyota Corona Coupe. This car was a totally un-molested gem with plenty of character. From the hidden fuel filler to the pillar-less windows and detailed hubcaps it was treat to see:

The Honda S600 roadster sported a dual chain-drive system unlike the later S800 with its live axle. The  high-revving motor has a near 10,ooorpm redline, in 1965! The owner said driving it was exhilarating to drive since the powerband starts where most car redline 🙂

The Japanese Car Exhibit was staged… …[read more]
