Scott Smith Wins SPEC Z!

Filed under: Events,Featured Cars and Projects,Performance
by Alvin G @ 12:27 am on February 14, 2013

Congratulations to Scott Smith for winning the SPEC Z racing series with the GreenZ!

After earning his SCCA license Scott started competing in the SPEC Z series with his silver race car and eventually prepared the GreenZ to finish the season.  Scott had a small team consisting of himself and his sidekicks Al and J. You could catch these three practicing at open track days like Thunderhill or Laguna Seca trying to dial the car in and find weak spots(see wheel bearing failure below!).

Here’s a video clip from a SPECZ race at Thunderhill:

Scott would like to thank Z Car Garage, William’s, CityTech, Evil Genius, NISMO and BFG. Great driving Scott, we are proud of you!

That’s right everyone, the Camaro is back and Enrique’s ’67 restoration has reached some important milestones: paint and drivetrain!  In the picture above you are looking at the body panel reflection from the expertly applied paint by William of Williams Auto Body. Here are a few more teaser pics:

Commute Not Boring: Kit’s Versa

Kit T has a very clean silver Z33 that ZCG has worked on. Like most Z owners it is hard to leave a car completely stock, especially if modifications can improve the fun factor. Kit’s commuter car is this Nissan Versa and to spice things up on his commute we installed NISMO suspension and replaced the brake lines with SS pieces, followed by a brake bleed with Stoptech fluid:

Here are before/after pics of the struts and springs:

Front:

Rear

The change in ride height is barely perceptible but the ride itself is vastly improved over the stock, economy -minded setup.  Stock vs NISMO:

Now Kit can Enjoy the Ride on the way to work!

Smoother and Faster: Eric’s G35

by Alvin G @ 10:46 pm on January 30, 2013

Erik M is a new customer at Z Car Garage and hails from the East Bay. He was also a Datsun Roadster owner at one point so that makes him extra cool in our book. With 100k miles on the clock of his G35 coupe he felt that the ride was getting very rough, especially over irregular surfaces. Erik wanted to refresh the suspension without lowering the car…we happily obliged and added a few more performance mods to the mix…

To strike a balance between ride control and stock height we installed Koni shocks with new OEM springs and Hotchkis sway bars f/r:

Sway bars:

A Bassani exhaust system is the perfect companion to the VQ’s melodious exhaust note…and it makes noticeable power gains. Below is the stock vs true-dual exhaust system:

Onto the engine….a JWT Pop charger, Z-tube and Motordyne plenum spacer complete the breathing improvements. New spark plugs were also installed:

Finally, we installed a JWT heavy duty clutch and flywheel and bled the brakes with ST600 fluid.

Rob UPREV tuned the G for final output of 266hp/246tq to the wheels. Great improvements in power and ride quality for this 100k mile Infiniti!

More Ponies: Michael’s Vortech Mustang GT

At Z Car Garage we welcome more than just Nissans. If it’s fast or we can make it faster, bring it on! We supercharged Michael L’s Ford Mustang GT almost two years ago using Vortech’s matte black blower kit:

Forced induction is like a drug though and Michael recently came back to ZCG for a few more mods including a cold-air intake and upgraded fuel pump to support more power:

Here is the Vortech fuel pump:

With Rob’s tuning the ‘Stang now makes 564hp and 492tq at the wheels!
