Roy’s Stillen Supercharged 370z

Filed under: 370z,Featured Cars and Projects,Performance
by Alvin G @ 4:14 pm on May 13, 2019

Roy A hails from Scotts Valley and we first met in 2015 when he brought his 2012 370z for UPREV tuning. It made 309hp/256tq to the wheels:

We also knew after his initial visit to ZCG that he couldn’t stay NA for long. In 2017 we made a plan to install the Stillen supercharger kit on his car.

This is the satin kit with our usual supporting mods like GTR plugs, a Z1 25-row oil cooler and the Stillen AT transmission cooler:

It made good power with 365hp/295tq at the wheels, but Roy is a guy that likes to keep turning up the boost (pun intended). At the end of 2018, we installed an air to air intercooler from  SOHO Motorsports. Ecutek software was also installed which allowed us to run at Speed Density instead of MAF:

The gains were impressive, picking up almost 100hp/50tq for 465hp/343tq to the wheels:

We actually had to dial it back down after running out of injector. A full fuel system upgrade is next on the list. For now the Z is making 410hp/328tq:

Now it was time to add suspension to the mix. We installed our favorite coil-over: the KW V3.

Stock Vs KW installed front:

Rear:

SPC upper arms up front and new links at the rear.

Hotchkis sway bar set:

We also installed Roy’s new set of wheels:

These were freshly released at the time: ADVAN AVS F50 in platinum black. Sized 20×10 F 20×12 R with 275/35/20F, 305 in rear. New TPMS were installed to retain factory tire pressure readings eliminating that annoying warning light.

Enjoy The Boost, Roy and see you soon!

Back For Boost: Max’s Stillen Supercharged 370z

Filed under: 370z,Featured Cars and Projects,Performance
by Alvin G @ 3:32 pm on February 13, 2019

We tuned Maximus’ 2014 370z on his last visit to ZCG with gains of 30whp using bolt-on parts. Power can be addicting, and soon Max told us he was ready for boost. We chose the Stillen supercharger kit for its CARB-legal status and straightforward installation.

With only 28k miles on the odometer we installed the Black Edition Stillen kit and our standard ZCG supporting mods like a Concept Z performance 25-row oil cooler and automatic transmission cooler. A few pictures of the installation:

The completed supercharger install:

Max’s Z had an open diff so we did installed an OS Giken limited-slip diff and gearset from the 370z 6spd MT:

Hotchkis front/rear Sway bars:

On the dyno, Rob performed an ECutek tune yielding 383hp/304tq to the wheels:

Enjoy The Boost, Max!

Mike’s Vortech Supercharged 350z

Filed under: Featured Cars and Projects,Performance
by Alvin G @ 1:02 am on October 1, 2018

We have been working with Mike M and his 2006 Z33 since last year. With every visit to ZCG this 350z gets upgraded in both power and chassis areas. In November 2017, with 111k miles on the VQ a Vortech supercharger was installed with supporting mods:

Chassis improvements: KW V3 coil overs, SPC front/rear control arms, Hotchkis sway bars and a full alignment. We also installed ART pipes to replace the factory cats:

Hotchkis front and rear sway bars:

ART Pipes:

Mike’s latest visit to ZCG included fueling, gauges and more power upgrades. The fuel system was converted to support E85/ethanol starting with a Walbro 485 in-tank fuel pump:

Next, a CJ Motorsports Stage 2 fuel return system help keep up with the Walbro pump:

Increased fuel demands of E85 require larger fuel injectors so we installed IDX 1050CC units. A Zeitronix ethanol sensor is critical for monitoring E85 content:

The brains to managing the E85 content is a Haltech Platinum Pro plug-in. A PLX Devices dm6 AFR/gen4 gauge pod also accommodates the Zeitronix ethanol sensor readout:

Final power adder was a 2.87 pulley for the supercharger and our ZCG air bypass for the race gate:

From the dyno charts below, having the ability to change the ethanol content of fuel allows for more hp/torque.  More smiles per gallon as well with E85 currently at $1.99/gallon

(left) Baseline before Haltech tuning: 331hp/286tq and (right) baseline to 91 octane tune with Haltech: 346hp/303tq to the wheels

Final 91 octane tune with the Haltech: 364hp/306tq at the wheels:

75% Ethanol tune: 421hp/345tq to the wheels:

To balance an extra 126hp power from the Vortech we installed a Stoptech Big-Brake Kit. Up front are 332mm ST40 calipers in red, with slotted rotors:

Stock vs Stoptech:

The new brake also look great behind the Enkei RPF1 wheels:

Enjoy the Ride Mike!

Maximus’ Nissan 370z

Filed under: 370z,Featured Cars and Projects,Performance
by Alvin G @ 4:30 pm on June 5, 2018

Maximus Y is from the valley and spent the day in San Jose with his wife while ZCG we tuned his 2014 370z. Max supplied the Power Package from Z1 Motorsports, consisting of test pipes, tubular exhaust headers and a modified upper intake manifold:

Since we had not installed these parts from Z1 before, we dyno tested them followed by UPREV tuning.

First, we installed the Z1 upper intake manifold:

Baseline before installation of the Power Package was 297hp/248tq at the wheels. The Z1 intake added ~5hp/6tq:

Next, the exhaust parts were installed. OEM vs Z1 exhaust headers:

OEM vs Z1 test pipes:

From the Z1 intake to headers/test pipes we saw gains of 20hp/13tq to the wheels. The dyno reveals significant mid to high rpm improvement:

Finally, Rob UPREV tuned for even more gains of 10hp making a total of 322hp/256tq to the wheels. An improvement over baseline of 30hp/14tq at the wheels:

We chatted with Max and with 27k miles on the odometer he will be visiting ZCG again to supercharge his Z! Stay tuned!
